I will be going to dental assisting-basic which is 17 hours and then advance dental assisting which is 21 hours.
i am going full time, Mon-Thurs. from 8am-11:30am everyday
when do you think i will be finished?

3 semesters or 1.5 years.
Reply:You could do it in one year to one and a half.
Reply:Well...it depends how many you take. If you take 12 a semester (usually 4 classes, pretty average)...it'll take you 4 semesters. If you take 15 a semester...it'll take you 3 semesters.
Normally classes should be worth credits (3,4,etc.) and it should say on your schedule.
I would wager a guess that the program you're in should take about a year - a year and a half?
Reply:ok, so, usually a semester load is like, 15 hours, so, about 2.5 semesters (a year and a half approx).

Hey can you help me??
ok i am in a dental assisting class at my high school and when i was in a medical assisting class visiting.. i passed out when they drew blood.. so now when i go into the opertories in my dental class i get reallly nervous and dizzy and im afraid i might pass out.. but i really want to be a dentist but they use needles and sometimes see blood... do u think blood and needles is something i could get used to.. or no? and do u know any way i can do it without getting dizzy?

Make sure you eat something before going to class...part of you dizziness could be hypoglycemia!

Yes, you will become desensitized and it will no longer bother you. If you feel dizzy again, take some deep, cleansing breaths. Draw air in through your nose and exhale deeply out through your mouth. Breath very slowly and deeply and the dizzy feeling should subside. Usually when you're anxious, you begin to breath rapidly and then hyperventilate. Try to breath calmly and remind yourself to relax. You will soon become used to the procedures. Good luck.

Need Advice About School?
I work in retail and barely make enough to pay my bills. I wanted to do Medical Billing and Coding and I looked into my options. I wanted to go to Heald but it cost $10,000 for their program. I found another class at a Adult Education Center that offered Medical Billing and Coding for $600. I'm taking the $600 class and so far I don't feel like it will help me to get a job or give me the training I need. Most of the time the teacher talks about her personal life or about some drama she had at her work place. If I drop the class I won't get my money back.
I want to go to Heald but its a lot of money. I was also thinking about doing Dental assisting which is offered at the community college and it won't cost me that much money. What should I do? Should I stay in my class? Should I go to another school?

Will a dental office be turned away from a part time dental assistant who is also going to school? What kind of hours could an assistant expect to work as part time... not # of hours but time frames like 8am - 12pm, etc. Would you recommend someone to go through a dental assisting program while getting their bachelors to get into dental school. I don't know what's going on with me, just 3 years ago, i was this responsible 18 year old.....i graduated from highschool, worked 2 jobs, then decided to go to school a year later as a dental assistant......during college i got pregnant....before i had my son, i left school.....gave birth to him, 2 months later...i was back in school, and then graduated as a dental assistant....my family was soo proud of me...that's when it all happened......i got scared.....i was nervous about leaving school and looking for a dental assisting job...i was afraid that i would fail...so i went into temporary warehousing......made okay money, but was always broke.....my family is pressuring me to get a dental assisting job, but they don't understand how scared i am...now I'm sitting home, haven't worked in 2 weeks,because i was laid off at the warehouse..my family and relatives r disappointed in me, they say I have no drive anymore...I use to be so hard working..i don't know what's going on??

Also since you are nervous about tryng dental assistant work why not look for a part time job as a dental assistant and work your way into it. It is scary but if you passed school and all your exams you are more than qualified to do the job. See your doc about the anxiety and get this treated and then go out and find something that interests you.
Reply:I can totally relate to your situation...I'm 26 and I haven't had a job for 2 years since I've been going to school full-time and just doing the school thing..I will be trying to find a job this summer and I am afraid about working and I am afraid that what I am getting my major in ..I'm afraid I won't succeed or do well at what I am working for...I think I am afraid of succeeding..

You will find that working with people in a dental office will be pleasant and you will be doing them a lot of good.

NO YOU ARE NOT SLACKING, I especially no how it feels to be scared to make adventurous decisions especially when I child is involved, I quit my job when I was 3 mnths prego, went back to school when my daughter was 3 mnths old, and I am getting ready to graduate in may, you have to take the whole dive girl, I know it's very difficult, but you have to push yourself to make a better future for you and your child, a career with benefits, healthcare, etc. Think of the benefits in the long run, the only bad decision is the one you never make. You could pick up some motivational vids from the library. But they're going to tell you what you already know. You have to grab that dentist by the ... horns and GO FOR IT!
The longer you wait the harder it's going to feel.
Ultimately, most feel that same anxiety when going from school to our trained field. The awkwardness goes away REALLY fast, when you find yourself doing with ease the things that you are worrying about.
Take that first step and send out the applications.

It's sounds like you've had a stressful and hard time over the past few years, you've been a busy girl, a lot of people couldn't take on all you have! It's sounds like you need some "me" time. Take some time out to try and figure out what it is you want to do in life. Everybody is nervous when getting their first "proper" job. But hey, you graduated as a dental assistant, so you have heaps going for you, it just sounds like you need to build up your confidence and have faith in yourself. Try talking to your family about what's going on in your head, they are there to support you.

I cannot say that you are depressed for certain, but if this has been how you have felt for over a month, there is a strong possibility. Either way, counseling will help you understand and face your fears. Do it for your son. He needs you to be your best, so he can grow to be his best.

this really hurts and I don't know what to do! I'm a 20 year old mother of a 15 month old, I'm a hard worker, graduated from highschool, worked 2 jobs after that, then graduated from college to become a dental assistant, while working a full time job.I'm a great mother, I have a great very loving boyfriend that my family hates with a passion.well, we basically hit rock bottom with our warehouse job and got laid off.i hated dental assisting, so that's why i never went back to the field, but i was being looked down on, critisized by my family, pressured to go into the dental field.almost every few days, i hear about my family talking crap about us. and we were broke, so i needed financial help.so i decided to change it. I looked for a dental assisting job, scored some interviews, my boyfriend got his job back, and they're still not satisfied! but they can't talk, they all work dead end jobs.they won't stop talking about me, i can't even go to family functions without them talking!

honey, first of all, NEVER LET YOUR FAMILY TELL YOU HOW YOUR LIFE SHOULD BE LIVED! you are the one that has to live it and deal with the decisions that you make, not them. you have to raise your baby, not them. you are in the relationship, NOT THEM. i find from experience that family will "pop their chops" when they are jealous, threatened by your success, or just to make them feel better. girl, i got married at 15 to a 22 year old, so you know i heard alot of talk, but guess what, they are all still single or in miserable relationships and my hubby and i just celebrated 13 years of marriage and we are sooooooooooooo happy STILL. my point is although they are your family and some may honestly think that they are "doing this in your best interest" leave them in the dark, dont tell them no decisions that you and your boyfriend make, you are grown and have to answer to no one but God. if you continue to live your life the way they want you to, you will NEVER be truly happy, think about that.

Just work hard as a Dental Asst. for now since you already went through School for it, you have financial troubles and a young child so it's better to stick with what you know until you have some savings and can look for something else you might enjoy.
Keep your chin up and your distance from your relatives,while making a Great Life with your Boyfriend and Baby. Hopefully your family will realize they miss you in their lives.

What should i put on my resume when im changing careers?
ok, about 5 years ago i was dental assisting in a dental office. I got out of that and got into childcare and am now a nanny. So for the last 4 years i have excellent childcare experience with excellent childcare references. Well, now i want to get back into dental assisting and employers would like for me to submit a resume. I have an excellent nanny resume but dont even have one for my jobs back when i was younger. I cant even remember exact dates of employment and if a new employer calls them for references they probably will not even know me. So my question is, should i just make up a "dental assisting" resume and not include my last 4 years of employment as a nanny seeing as how it would have nothing to do with the job i am applying for? Or include ALL employment no matter what job i am applying for. And what if i cant remember employment dates??????

Do you get charged for using the out of hours dental service?
I am not registered with a dentist and i have a sore tooth..I am thinking of phoning the out of hours dental service that the NHS Trust provides, but i am not sure how much they charge for treatments etc...can anyone assist?

No the out of hours service should be free. If not register at a dentist and if they have to give you 'emergency treatment' then its normally on the NHS and is free. Even if they do charge for it it wont be nearly as much as private dentists charge
Reply:Why not just pick a dentist and make an appointment during regular office hours as this would be a heck of a lot cheaper than using an after hourse service.
Reply:ive used this service several times like an emergency,i do not work at the moment so i got the treatment for free if you work it depends on what you have done and what you must pay and depending on your circumstance you may be given time to pay,hope this has helped
Reply:yes if you normally pay for NHS treatment..i am a dental nurse in one of theses clinics..the cost would come under the band 1 treatment plan which is £15.50
Reply:The actual call out costs nothing but you have to pay for any treatment you recieve(if you normally pay for treatment).
The charges for NHS treatment are the same whether it is at an normal appointment or as an emergency.
Reply:If you have to pay NHS charges for dental treatment then you have to pay for treatment out of hours. A lot of people go to these clinics, which are supposed to be for dental emergencies only, because they think they're free.
If you are entitled to free treatment, please take along proof of exemption.
