I have thinking of becoming a dental hygienist in the state of Tennessee. I want to know if anyone knows what are the educational requirements and what schools offer a dental hygiene program...I DO NOT want a dental assisting program. Does anyone do this for a living? Do you make good money and how hard was the schooling? I currently live in Clarksville, TN. I have always wanted to do this, but I dont think there are many dental hygiene programs in my state.
Dental Hygienists in Tennessee???
I know Western Kentucky University has a dental hygienest program. I think Western is maybe an hour away from Clarksville. When I was a student there the hygienists in trainging cleaned my teeth. I think you can get in state tuition rates at WKU since you live in a bordering Tn county. There is also a program at Tennessee State University in Nashville, which I believe is closer to you than WKU. Check out: http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos097.htm for information on being a dental hygienist. I don't do this for a living, but I seriously considered it a few years ago. I've opted to be an ultrasound technician.
