Dental Hygienists, was it difficult to get accepted into hygiene school and how difficult was the curriculum?

I am interested in becoming a Dental Hygienist! I currently am in a Dental Assisting program %26amp; absolutely love it and am SO interested in Dentistry. I have decided to 'move on' and major in DH and possibly work at a pediatric office. (I have observed in a pedio office and loved it!!!) I am not worried about 'burning out' like everyone says and every job i have been at I have LOVED, i am just that type of person, thats not a problem at all,. I do have a concern for the schooling aspect.. I graduated high school last year and overall probably had a B average. I wasn't 'TOP of the class' but I wasn't an awful student. If I work hard enough and set my mind towards a goal I know I can achieve it (so corny ). I am wondering how difficult it is to get accepted and how difficult the curriculum is. Unfortunately since I didn't take my SAT's and most 4 year colleges need scores, I may attend a local County College to take some of the basic classes. Please leave any suggestions for me,. thank

..DENTAL HYGIENE IS NOT DIFFICULT AT ALL. THE CURRICULUM IS NOT VERY INDEPTH, THEY TEACH YOU BASICS THAT WILL ASSIST TO DO YOUR JOB ADEQUATELY. USUALLY ABOUT 2 YEARS OF TRAINING FULL TIME.
Reply:Many community colleges offer DH programs now, so you can become a hygienist without actually attending a 4-year university. This often requires a year of prereq's, followed by an 18month or 2 year program. In my eyes, the benefit to this is cheaper tuition and easier acceptance into the program. In my experience, once you graduate and get licensed, no employer cares all that much about where you went to school, just that you are a licensed professional. Check out this link for national DH programs accredited by the ADA.

And don't worry, if you're as motivated as you say you are, you'll do great! Good luck!
Reply:I'm a DH student and will graduate in May from a community college. You'll save lots of money at a community college and still get a great education. The past two graduating classes from my school have all done very well on their board exams! You should go for it, just work hard to keep your grades up!
