I am going back to school and I am undecided on these 2 courses. I like them both but I need to know which one would be more secure $$$ wise.
In your opinion which is a better field to get into? Medical or Dental Assisting?
med assting - will offer your more options for long term career choices. you can, with extra schooling, move into various other fields within medicine. some like the morgue, others like the nursery etc. your main duties here will be both clerical and some medical. you'll gather their insurance info, take their temp and blood pressure, administer some medications and deal a good bit with the front and back office operations. no salaries but pay usually starts around 9-12 bucks an hour. highly recommended you get placed in a hospital than a smaller private doctors office.
dental assting - more focused on back office work than actual assisting. you make the molds, impressions, may some times clean teeth (although thats more for the hygienist than you) paperwork and front/back office duties. this field is more P/T than F/T,. you can get FT work but majority of DA's usually PT at 1, 2o or even 3 different dentists office. pay range very similar to medical asts but a little lower on the scale. with extra schooling can go to become hygienist but that's pretty much about it as far as long term career paths.
Reply:Medical
Reply:medical has a wider field of opportunity.
dentistry is a much smaller field.
Reply:Medical offers more options. Dental assistants are beginning to flood the market and from what I hear, it is intensely competitive.
Reply:Definitely medical; would you want to work in people's mouths all day??? (eewwww)
Reply:I prefer medical. I want to major in a feild of medicine.
Reply:First you should ask yourself those questions below and then decide which field is going to continue to grow hot in the future:
Do you like get shots or giving people shots? Are you a kind-hearted person who is willing to help others? If so, you should consider a profession in Medical Assisting:

Are you good with your hands and enjoy working with people from all kinds of nationalities? Then maybe you should consider Dental Assisting:

No mather what you choose, both of the careers are rewarding and if you don't like one of the other then maybe you should reconsider the choice of the other.
Hopefully this helps you on your decision!!!
